Olympic Sculpture Park Book

This is a book I made laster year for my Cornish foundations second-to-final project. I sold it to my teacher Ruthy and just recently asked for it back to I could scan it in. Below are the ink and watercolor blind contour drawings I did from the Seattle Olympic Sculpture Park. Enjoy.

Yost Park Map

This is a trail map that my friend Danny and I made about two (?) years ago. We took a pre-existing park map and added to it all the trails, landmarks etc. that were never listed on the official map. In addition to adding smaller side trails and landmarks we also continued to rate various locations based on a 5 star scale for their natural beauty. The final map was hand drawn by myself and then colored with colored pencils. The final product that took roughly a month or so to finish is posted below - unfortunately my scanner is slightly too small for this image so the very edges were cut off. Anyways. Enjoy.

Tree Paintings

Here are a series of studies in oil on how light interacts with tree forms. Each painting was done in a monotone color palette so i could focus purely on value relationships. No more than three colors were used in any of these paintings.

A few More Paintings

The first painting here is the second in a series of three depicting these concepts: question, possibility and statement. See if you can figure out which it is.

The other two are paintings I did from a real still life in my painting class last week. We were supposed to be focusing on the way color interacted with white objects. Though it may be difficult to tell from this quick (30 minute) painting the object in question is a shell with barnacles on it.

All three were done in oil alla prima.

Assorted Sketchbook Images

These images come from a black Moleskine that I started last year during my Cornish College 'foundations' class. The main motive in this sketchbook is to experiment -- not worry to much about finished, delicate or overly cherished images. It's been fun playing around with color and different mediums, I encourage anyone reading this to seriously play around with material and let loose any preconceptions you have about your art.
